This primary focus will be on the fundamentals of Kathak dance (bring a pencil and notebook to class with you). We will work on building up our strength through footwork (tat kaar) and hand gestures (hastaks). We will create Kathak movement exercises through our practice (Riyazz). With all of these skills, we will create a short Bollywood choreography at the end of the series. Open to all levels and experiences with dance.
Mondays: 7 – 8pm
Immerse yourself in our colorful cultural heritage through our Bollywood dance classes. These classes help you work up a sweat and learn about the various dance style from across India (Garba, Bhangra, and Filmy Bollywood). Classes are technique driven, taught through choreography, we will have a new style/song every two weeks during the 6-week session.
Wednesdays: 6 – 7pm
This class will take you further into the unbounded diversity of Bollywood, by teaching you how to blend Indian dance and Contemporary dance. Dancers of all levels will learn to isolate body parts, define movements and develop coordination and rhythm while learning a challenging and innovative choreography. Class taught by Holli.
Fridays: 6 – 7pm (Starts 1/27)
This unlimited package gives you access to all three classes during the six week session.
Our little kids’ Bollywood class is filled with joyful, energetic movements and Bollywood music. In this class, we will share a range of dance styles in Bollywood, from modern hip hop/jazz steps to elegant classical movements to create a dance they can perform at the end of the 6-week session. All classes include a warm-up, stretch technique, stationary and traveling moves, and the usage of props. Students will learn and create a dance they can perform by memory at the end of the 6 weeks.
Thursdays: 4 – 4:45pm
Saturdays: 11:15 – 12pm
Dance attire: Comfortable clothing that you can easily move in (e.g. tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, yoga pants). Dance barefoot or in supportive shoes.
