Born in Guyana, South America and originally from Bronx, NY, Gaitrie is a Buffalo based Dancer and Choreographer. She graduated the University at Buffalo in 2006, traveled back to NYC and resided there for another 5 years before moving back to Buffalo.
During her time in NYC, she trained under Pooja Narang Founder and Artistic Director of Bollywood Axion, New York City's first Bollywood dance school. Gaitrie was recognized by Pooja very quickly in classes and became part of her performing troupe in less than a year. Performing at countless events and shows, including dancing at the Crossroads in Time Square, Bollywood Hero Flash Mob and many more.
In 2009, Gaitrie joined The Sa Dance Company, under the artistic vision and ClassPass CEO, Payal Kadakia. Payal has a unique style of her own and showcases the art of Indian dance on many interesting levels. Having previously danced together, both Gaitrie & Payal had similar visions to bring Indian dance to the mainstream. Through dancing with Payal she has shown Gaitrie how to manage a performing troupe, be an entrepreneur and a role model to others who have a zest and passion for the arts. The Sa Dance Company showcased a three day premiere at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater in 2010, one of their largest and sold out performances, along with many other events including for performing for Indian Film Director Mira Nair. Gaitrie knew her calling since then. Payal's passion and vision has always been an inspiration to Gaitrie, Payal continues to mentor and guide Gaitrie to focus on her passion.
Gaitrie continues to study all forms of dance including a regular practice of Yoga (Vinyasa & Ashtanga), a steady study of Indian classical dance; Bharatanatyam along with Contemporary and various Hip-Hop dance classes.
